Florida Memorial Softball Can’t Topple Thomas University Friday, Drops Both In Doubleheader

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Florida Memorial University was handed a pair of tough losses Friday, dropping both games of the day's doubleheader against host Thomas University at TU's Armory Field.
 
How It Happened – Game One (TU 9, FMU 0)
  • FMU fell behind 6-0 through the bottom of the first inning, stringing together five hits – including three doubles.
  • The deficit grew over the next two innings with the Night Hawks producing one run in the second and two runs in the third while the Lions remained hitless.
  • Florida Memorial ended up being no-hit through five innings as the game was ended after the top of the fifth because the 8-run mercy rule was active.
 
How It Happened – Game Two (TU 10, FMU 2)
  • The Lions fell behind early again as TU scored four runs in the bottom of the first and a single run in the second to put FMU in a 5-0 hole.
  • Florida Memorial got on the board in the top of the third inning.
  • McKenna Dawes reached on an error, Heidy Olivo knocked in a run on a double to left, and Olivo was able to make her way across home plate after Zariah Spells put the ball in play and the Night Hawks' pitcher committed an error – making it a 6-2 game.
  • Thomas University scored four more runs through the bottom of the fifth and activated the 8-run mercy rule and end the game.

  • Camryn Gregory drew a walk.
  • TU had eight hits, four of which were extra-base hits.
  • Reygan Nickerson got the start on the mound for the Lions, throwing 4.0 innings with a strikeout.

  • The Night Hawks were charged with an error in the first inning and had a walk in the second inning that prevented a perfect game.
  • FMU was no-hit for the second time this season.
  • The Lions fall to 2-30 overall and 1-25 in the Sun Conference.
  • Thomas University improved to 26-19 overall and 13-13 in the Sun Conference.
