LAKELAND, Fla. | The Florida Memorial softball team was swept by Southeastern after losing a lead in game one of the weekend series at the SEU Softball Field.
Game One
Southeastern 12 - FMU 4
The Fire took an early lead in the first inning before the Lions answered back in the second inning with two runs of their own when
Trinity Hobley produced a two-RBI double to left center that scored both
Bryanna Curry and
Ciera Taylor. The Lions scored an additional two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead when
McKenna Dawes produced an RBI-single to center field that brought home
Heidy Olivo. Later in the inning, Taylor produced a sacrifice-RBI bunt that scored
Breanna Reyes.
The Fire responded with a run in the bottom stanza, cutting the deficit to 4-3. The Lions held a one-run lead until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Southeastern exploded with nine runs to end the game.
Gabriela Pinto (6-4) was credited with the loss for FMU, allowing a total of nine earned runs and one strikeout in five innings.
Game Two
Southeastern 8 - FMU 0
FMU gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning and couldn't recover throughout the contest.
Aashana Francis (1-6) was credited with the loss as she allowed three earned runs while striking out two batters.
Game Three
Southeastern 10 - FMU 5
The Lions took a three-run lead in the top of the first inning when Dawes produced a sacrifice-fly RBI that brought home Francis for the first run of the ball game. Taylor then generated a two-RBI double down the left field line that scored Reyes and Olivo.
The Fire responded with a run in the bottom stanza, then poured in an additional six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-3 lead. However, FMU answered back with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth, cutting the deficit to 7-5 in favor of Southeastern. Unfortunately, Florida Memorial could not generate any more runs as they fell in game three of the weekend series.
Pinto (6-5) was credited with the loss as she allowed five earned runs in six innings pitched.
FMU returns to action Friday, April 28 as they travel across the street to face St. Thomas in the Battle of Miami Gardens. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
