MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial is off to its best start in program history with a 6-2 record overall after splitting today's doubleheader against Fort Lauderdale, falling 1-0 in game one before storming back for a 9-0 (5 innings) thrashing at Walt Frazier Park at Carol City.
Game 1
FMU 0- UFTL 1
The first game of the doubleheader proved to be a classic defensive struggle for the ages, with the game-winning run coming from a sacrifice-fly RBI in the fifth inning. FMU starting pitch
Gabriela Pinto (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season, yet allowed just one hit and one run all game while striking out four Eagles batters as she stood toe to toe with Eagles pitcher Alexia Geary, who only allowed three hits in the game.

Ciara Justice were the only Lions to generate hits throughout the tight contest, which dropped FMU to 5-2 on the season.
Game 2
FMU 9 - UFTL 0 (5 innings)
The Lions took an early one-run lead when Justice produced a sacrifice RBI-bunt to bring home
Heidy Olivo for the first score of game two. FMU added three additional runs in the second inning when Reyes produced an RBI-single that scored freshman
Kylie Enrique. Moments later, Olivo produced a two-RBI single to right field that brought home Taylor and
Bryanna Curry to give FMU a 4-0 lead.
In the third inning,
Leneaya Silva generated a sacrifice-fly RBI which brought home Justice. In the next inning, Justice hit an RBI-single up the middle which scored Taylor. Moments later,
Mariana Gongora produced an RBI-double to left field that scored Olivo, bringing the score to 8-0.
Aashana Francis scored the final run of the game for the Lions, who improved to 6-2 with the huge win at home.
Freshman transfer pitcher
Kaylie Araujo (2-0) was outstanding on the mound, allowing just two hits all game while fanning six Eagles batters, earning her second victory this season.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 24 as they travel to Duval County to face Trinity Baptist College in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.
