The opening contest proved to be a pitching duel until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Eagles poured in five runs en route to a 6-0 victory over the Lions. FMU managed a total of just three hits in the contest, snapping a four-game win streak.

FMU pitcher Breana Morales (1-1) earned the loss, allowing five earned runs while striking out one batter.

FMU 3 - UFTL - 4

The Lions got behind in the first inning but tied it up in the second inning when freshman Kylie Enrique scored as a result of an error from the pitcher. Fort Lauderdale responded in the next inning with two runs, but Florida Memorial answered back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning when right fielder Kayla Jade Morales generated an RBI double to left field that scored Ariyuana DuPont. Moments later, left fielder Aashana Francis produced an RBI-single to center field that brought home Morales.

UFTL responded with the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Lions could not answer back.

The Lions begin conference play on Friday, March 15 against Warner. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla.
