MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University showcased determination and defensive strength in its match up against St. Thomas.
FMU recorded 103 passing yards, with
Miracle Washington throwing for 55 yards and
Marcelina Luke adding 48 yards.
Ameria Smith led receivers with nine catches for 53 yards, while contributions from
Kalyce Williams and others reflected a balanced offensive effort.
Defensively, the Lions delivered a strong showing.
MaKhya Pedro tallied six tackles and two sacks for 12 yards, and
Sahara McDonald led the team with seven total tackles. The defense applied consistent pressure, recording two sacks and matching St. Thomas in first downs (six each).
Special teams added momentum, as
Jada Grant averaged 30.3 yards per punt with two kicks inside the 20-yard line.
Although the game presented challenges, FMUs defensive intensity, balanced attack, and resilience continue to build a strong foundation moving forward. The loss drops FMU to 0-2 on the season.
The Lions return to action Friday, March 6, when they'll take on Siena Height in the first game of the IFFA Mid Season Tournament. Kickoff is slated for 1:15 p.m. at the Wiregrass Sports Complex.
