Ayana Harris

Ayana Harris joined the FMU family as an assistant cheerleading coach in 2019 before being promoted to head cheerleading coach in May of 2021.

In 2022 Harris was named SUN Conference Competitive Cheer Coach of the Year after her first season as head coach.

In 2025 Harris was again named Coach of the Year, this time for the Southern States Athletic Conference after leading the FMU competitive cheer team to the first cheerleading conference championship in FMU history.

In her four years as head coach, FMU cheer has had 13 All-Conference Athletes, 5 NAIA Competitive Cheer All Americans, won a Conference Championship, and made two NAIA Cheer National Championship Appearances (2024, 2025).

Harris is also involved with NAIA cheerleading on the national level, currently serving as the Second Vice President of the NAIA Competitive Cheer Executive Committee, Chair of the NAIA Cheer All American Selection Committee, and as a member of the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship Selection Committee.

Harris brings 22 years of coaching experience to FMU having successfully coached at all levels including recreation and all-star cheer. She has also served as a competitive cheer judge, and lends her time to consulting, choreography, and judging tryouts at local area high schools. Additionally, outside of cheerleading, Coach Harris is a seasoned attorney, and a proud graduate of the University of Miami and Howard University School of Law. She practiced law for over 19 years before Governor Ron DeSantis appointed her in 2019 as a judge on the Miami-Dade County Court, where she currently handles civil and domestic violence cases.

Coach Harris most looks forward to continuing to build the competitive cheer program at FMU while supporting the University’s athletic programs.
