Clavens Charles joined the FMU family in April of 2019 as defensive back coach. He left in June of 2022 before returning in January of 2023 as athletic operations manager running backs coach.
In June of 2022, Charles was director of athletics at ASA college.
A Miami native, Charles played at Southwest Miami High School as a four-year starter from 1999-2002, playing multiple positions such as quarterback, wide receiver, defensive back and running back.
After high school, Charles played St. Peters College in New Jersey as a utility player before transferring to El Camino College in California in 2004.
Charles signed with the University of Kansas in 2006 as a defensive back before transferring to Texas A&M Kingsville the same year as a utility player. In 2009, Charles graduated from Kingsville with a bachelor in Communications.
In 2009, the Cincinnati Bengals brought Charles in for a rookie workout as an undrafted free agent.
Charles came back to Miami in 2014 as the receiver coach for South Miami High School for a season before switching to ASA College as assistant defensive back coach and admissions director for athletics. From 2014-2018 Charles coached for the first junior college football team in Miami in ASA College.
