Florida Memorial University Men's Basketball team outlasted Warner University for the win 72-66 on Saturday evening at Health and Sports Center on the campus of Barry University in front of a packed crowd for homecoming game.
The first half was an even contest as neither team ever broke out to a significant lead. Warner led by as much as eight points in the half but the Florida Memorial never allowed the Warner to pull away. Florida Memorial and Warner shot an even 40.0 percent from the field in the first half; Florida Memorial entered the lock room down 40-36.
Florida Memorial started the second half on a 10-4 run as it took a 50-44 advantage with just over 13 minutes left in the contest. But Warner went on a run of its own to erase an eight-point lead and tie the game up at 64-64 all with 2:20 left on the clock. The Lions would connect on ensuing possessions and pulling ahead 69-64 on a pair of free throws with 29-seconds left. Florida Memorial was able to hold on to its late lead for a 72-66 win. Florida Memorial out-shot Warner 51% to 36.2 percent, while out-rebounding their opponent by a slim 23-15 margin. The Lions shot 60% from the three point line, while holding their opponent to 16.7% shooting from the three point line.
Samuel Dorismond led the Lions with 34 points 11-16 FG shooting. While
Davonte Byrd counted for 10 points,
Timothy Coleman poured in 10 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and
La Dante Berry-White contributed 7 points.
The Lions return to the court Tuesday night (Feb. 17) when they host St. Thomas University for an 8 p.m. showdown.
