Florida Memorial University women's basketball team came out attacking early and never looked back on Thursday night as the Lady Lions took away a 63-62 win over Thomas University.
Despite Thomas jumping out to a 19-16 lead after the first quarter of play, the Lions were able to rally back in the second quarter. Florida Memorial continued to spread the ball around in the second quarter, outscoring Thomas, 26-9, which gave Florida Memorial a 42-28 advantage at the half.
Florida Memorial continued to stretch its lead against Thomas in the third quarter going up as much as 18 points, 57-39, but Thomas made a run and outscored the Lady Lions' 19-4 in the final quarter of play and pulled within four points, 61-55, with just over six minutes remaining in regulation. Despite a late fourth-quarter run by Thomas, Florida Memorial was able to hold on as they sealed a 63-62 victory.
Florida Memorial picked up 16 of their 63 points off Thomas' 32 turnovers. The Lady Lions held Thomas to only 28.4 percent from the field (25-of-88) after Thomas struggled from beyond the arc, going 4-for-23 (17.4 %) from downtown.
Abreona Cabell led the Lady Lions with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while
Ashley Henry finished in double-figures, picking up 12 points and15 boards.
Brittney Jackson added 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.
Dejah Bradshaw also poured in 9 points and 2 steals.
The Lions will return to action on Monday, Jan. 11th, when they welcome Warner University at St. Thomas University with tipoff at 7 p.m.
