Florida Memorial University men's basketball team (5-2, 4-0 TSC) routs Thomas University Saturday afternoon at the FMU Wellness Center. The win is the fifth straight for the Lions to open the season and their best start in over 10 years.
 
Florida Memorial led 23-16 at the ten-minute mark of the first half. The margin was increased to 45-30, but Thomas never allowed the Lions to pull away. Florida Memorial entered the locker room up 45-37. The first half saw the Lions shoot a sizzling 61.54 % percent from the field.
Coming out of the break, the game adjustment by Coach Maddox seemed to work as the Lions poured on the offense at the start of the second half to take the lead 64-50.  With 11:01 to go, Florida Memorial turned up the heat and held Thomas scoreless for most of the second half.  The back breaker came when Thomas went on a run of their own and cut the Lions lead to 6. Familiar with close game situations, the Lions slowed the tempo, controlled the clock, and scored down the stretch to close out the game and seal the win.

Florida Memorial out-shot Thomas 48.3 % to 32.8 % percent.  The Lions shot 37.0 % from the three point line to Thomas' 29.2 %.

Aaron Bryant led the Lions with 30 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assist and 3 blocks. Jaelyn Johnson-Coston had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 1 block, while Charlie Nedd-Araujo and Davon Williams scored 9 points. Travis Mitchell also poured in 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Florida Memorial Lions will return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 10, 2016, when they travel to Edward Waters College with Tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
