Florida Memorial University women's basketball routs Thomas University on Saturday afternoon at the FMU Wellness Center for their first win of the season.
Florida Memorial was able to gain an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, as they led by as many as 16. Florida Memorial opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run, but Thomas closed the half on a 12-4 run and cut the FMU lead to 43-39 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Florida Memorial opened the third quarter on a 15-5 run, and with 5:50 left in the quarter, the Lions were leading by 14 points (58-44). Florida Memorial opened the fourth-quarter on another run, and they were able to seal a 103-78 victory.
The Lady Lions held Thomas to only 37.7 % percent from the field (39-for-77) after Thomas struggled from beyond the arc, going 5-for-21 (23.8 % ) from downtown.
Abreona Cabell led the Lady Lions with 25 points and 15 rebounds, while
Danielle Bailey finished with 19 points and 9 boards.
Andrisia Sweeting added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal.
Shelby Miller poured in 11 points and 2 steals, while
Mya Jackson,
Victoria Jones &
S'kadrah Woods chipped in 10 points each.
The Lions will return to action on Friday, December 9, 2016, when they travel to Edward Waters College with tipoff at 7 p.m.
