Lady Lions Volleyball sweeps past Wildcats 3-0

Florida Memorial University Lady Lions swept past Johnson & Wales University 25-3, 25-16, 25-10, Wednesday evening (Sept. 28) in Sun Conference women's volleyball action.  FMU ups its overall mark to 2-8 and conference record at 2-3, while Johnson & Wales drops to 1-7 and 0-5.
 
Angelique Lopez tallied 22 assists and did not commit a ball handling error, while serving two aces. Iliana Mendoza added nine kills and Jessica Medina had eight while pacing the Lady Lions with 9 digs. Rebecca Garcia chipped in a team-high 11 digs.

Florida Memorial scored the opening ten points of the first set and never trailed.  An 11-1 spurt by the Lady Lions helped lead to the 25-3 win.  In set two, the score was 8-9 (at 2-2), but that would be the closest Johnson & Wales would get.  A 16-8 run midway through the second set enabled FMU to pull away for the 25-16 victory.

The third set was close for the first few points with a 4-4 tie and the Lady Lions went on a 13-3 run to close out the game and pick up their first home win of the season. 
 
Florida Memorial will play its next matches on the road at Warner University on Saturday for a 2 p.m. first serve.
