Florida Memorial volleyball team ended a 27 Game losing skid against Warner University on Saturday afternoon at the FMU Wellness Center. The win follows up their three-set win against Johnson and Wales on Friday. The Lady Lions claimed a 25-22, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 15-10 win.
In the first set, Florida Memorial led for the majority of the action. Warner came back towards the end and tied the set at 19-19. A late run sealed the win for Florida Memorial.
During a tougher second set, Warner used a mid-set run to lead 10-4. Florida Memorial had their lowest hitting percentage - .091 - of the match. Florida Memorial would claw their way back, but fell to Warner 27-25.
The third set was the tightest set of the match with neither team picking up more than five consecutive points. Florida Memorial maintained a slight edge until Warner went on a three point run to pull ahead 17-14. Florida Memorial would regain their lead and close out the match 25-20. Warner made a strong early showing in the fourth set, leading 23-18 after a five-point run and a four-point run. The Lady Lions would claw their way back towards the end at 24-22, but they ultimately fell 25-22.
In the final set, Florida Memorial came out strong with a .273 hitting percentage compared to the Warner's .118. They only led once, 2-1 in the set and lost 15-10.
Jessica Medina (22 digs and 19 kills) and
Yulianna Charris (29 digs and 17 kills) each posted a double-double.
Francheska Rivera posted 52 assists, and
Ivana Maric also added 10 kills. As a team, Florida Memorial had the edge in kills (60-44), total points (73-56), aces (7-4), assists (58-44) and hitting percentage (.158-.108).
Florida Memorial is now 7-13 on the season and 4-8 in Sun Conference play. Florida Memorial welcomes Fisk University to FMU Wellness Center on Friday, October 27 at 5pm.
