Lady Lions Rout Thomas for First Conference Win

Florida Memorial Women's Basketball team used full-court pressure to pull away and defeat Thomas University 70-57 in conference play at Thomas University Gymnasium on the campus of Thomas University. Florida Memorial picks up their fifth win of the season to improve to 5-4 and 1-1 in the conference. 

The Lady Lions opened the game on a 10-2 run in the first half, but Thomas cut into FMU's lead and trailed by 4 at the end of the quarter. FMU stretched the lead to 19-12 with 7:26 left in the half. The back and forth play continued throughout the half, with the Lady Lions holding a 28-18 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, Florida Memorial mounted their largest lead, 39-20 with 8:20 to play. But Thomas would not go quietly and fought back and forth with Florida Memorial. FMU went 26-for-59 from the floor and out-shot Thomas 44 to 37 percent, while out-rebounding their opponent by a 43-26 margin. The Lady Lions shot 25 % from the three point line.

Abreona Cabell  led the Lady Lions with 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Shawnice King poured in 19 points and 3 steals, while Ashley Henry contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Florida Memorial returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they head to College of Coastal Georgia for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
