Florida Memorial Women's basketball fended off Concordia University in a hard-fought second half to earn a 76-62 victory on Tuesday night at the FMU Wellness Center.
Florida Memorial spread the ball around in the first quarter and played good defense to close out the first quarter of play, down 15-16. After battling back and forth through the second quarter, the Lady Lions headed into halftime down 29-35.
Coming out of the break, Florida Memorial opened the third quarter on a run and tied up the game at 42-42 against Concordia as both teams exchanged baskets throughout the quarter. Florida Memorial outscored Concordia 22-11 in the third quarter of play. In the final quarter, The Lady Lions slowed the tempo, controlled the clock, and scored down the stretch to close out the game and seal the win.
The Lady Lions shot 42.4 % from the field and 38.9 % from the three point line, while holding their opponent to 28.5 % shooting in the second half. Florida Memorial held Concordia to just 8-for-28 shooting from three-point land and forced 12 turnovers.
Danielle Bailey led the Lady Lions with 29 points, 9-13 FG shooting, 6-8 free throw shooting, and grabbed 2 rebounds. Ashley Henry poured in 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Abreona Cabell contributed 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Lady Lions return to the court Dec. 30th when they travel to Florida Gulf Coast University for a 7:00 p.m. start.
