Florida Memorial University men's basketball team roll past West Virginia University Institute of Technology on Tuesday night at FMU Wellness Center.
Florida Memorial got off to a spectacular start and were able to build a five point lead by the middle of the first half, but WVU Tech remained in the game in the early going with excellent success at the free throw line, going 2-3 from the stripe. FMU went in the locker room up 31-26.
Coming out of the break, Florida Memorial opened the second half on a run and was able to extend its lead to 14, 54-40. WVU Tech came back with an run to come within 2 points 60-58 with 1:33 to play. Florida Memorial made enough free throws down the stretch to hold off WVU Tech 66-61 for the win.
The team shot 43 percent from the field in the second half and 35 percent in the first half. The Lions also shot 28 percent from beyond the arc and 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. Florida Memorial out shot WVU Tech, registering 39 percent from the field while WVU Tech was 37 percent.
Davon Williams led the Lions with 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while
Travis Mitchell poured in 19 points, and grabbed 2 rebounds.
Omar Outar contributed 10 points.
Florida Memorial University Lions will host Talladega College on Monday, January 1, 2018 for an 12:00 p.m. tip-off.
