Florida Memorial Men's Basketball team used a big second half of precision shooting to defeat Webber International University 94-77 and pick up a key conference win at the FMU Wellness Center.
In the first half, the Lions quickly erased a deficit by Webber International with a pair of baskets and went on a 15-7 run to put the Lions on top, 30-15, at the 9:55 mark. The teams went into the locker room with Florida Memorial up by 2 points, 44-42.
In the second half, both teams offenses continued to exchange baskets, with FMU leading by as much as 12 points. With less than 16 minutes to go, Webber International made a run and cut the lead to 7 points. The Lions turned up the heat and held Webber International scoreless for most of the second half. The Lions slowed the tempo, controlled the clock, and scored down the stretch to close out the game and seal the win.
Florida Memorial out-shot Webber International 38 to 30 percent, while out-rebounding their opponent by a 44-38 margin. The Lions shot 38.7 % from the three point line.
In their final regular season home game as a Lion,
Jaelyn Johnson-Coston led a balanced scoring attack for FMU with 21 points, 10 boards and 3 steals,
Kody Williams chipped in 21 points, 6 boards and 6 steals and
Tymon Enwerama poured in 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Andre Braziel scored 6 points and 6 assists, while
Rodney Bethel played 3minutes.
Florida Memorial will be hosting The Sun Conference Men's Basketball Final Four. As the No. 1 seed, the Lions earned a bye into the quarterfinals. They will take the court on Monday, February 27, 2017 to face the winner of quarterfinals first-round 4/5 game. The winner of the championship will gain an automatic bid into the NAIA Tournament.
