Florida Memorial's Gary Garcia recorded two hits and drove in the winning run as Florida Memorial University's baseball team recorded a walk-off extra-inning win over College of St. Joseph 3-2, in the opening game of a Friday afternoon doubleheader held at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field. The Lions went on to split the two game set with College of St. Joseph, losing the second game 3-1.

The Lions jumped on College of St. Joseph's starting pitcher, scoring one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.  College of St. Joseph scored their first run in the fourth inning and later added another run in the top of the seventh, to take a 2-1 lead.

Trailing 2-1 entering their final at-bat in the seventh inning, the Lions wasted no time, putting their first two runners Emilio Marrufo (misplayed grounder) and Gary Garcia (single) on base. Chris Bernart loaded the bases (walk) and Tommy Hernandez singled to left, scoring Emilio Marrufo, tying the game at 2-2, sending the game into extra innings.

In extra Innings, Raymond Rodriguez doubled to center to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Emilio Marrufo's grounded out sacrifice, setting up Gary Garcia heroics. Gary Garcia singled to left for the game winning run, scored by Raymond Rodriguez.

Raymond Rodriguez, a sophomore short stop, banged out two doubles and a single in four plate appearances. Brandon Carter started the opening game and pitched six innings, striking out two batters and allowing two runs on six hits.  Tommy Hernandez came on in relief in the extra frames, pitching the final two innings and earned the win.
