Florida Memorial University women's basketball extended a six-game winning streak on Thursday night at FMU's Wellness Center. The Lady Lions picked up their sixth Sun Conference win of the season over Ave Maria University with a score of 69-65.
Florida Memorial spread the ball around in the first quarter and played good defense to close out the first quarter of play up 245-21. After battling back and forth through the second quarter, the Lady Lions headed into the break with a 38-35 lead.
Florida Memorial and Ave Maria battled out a tough third quarter of play, as both teams exchanged baskets throughout the quarter. Ave Maria outscored Florida Memorial 17-15 in the final quarter of play, But Florida Memorial was able to pull away with a 4 point win.
The Lady Lions shot 35 percent for the game and also made 16-of-21 from the free throw line. Ave Maria shot 40 percent from the field and were 5-of-14 from the three point line.
Abreona Cabell led the Lady Lions with 31 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steal, 3 assists and 2 block,
Danielle Bailey while added 12 points, 1 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.
Ashley Henry poured in 11 points each.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Saturday, January 13th, when they travel to Southeastern University with tipoff at 5 p.m.
