Florida Memorial Men's Basketball team used a big second half of precision shooting to defeat Florida National University 94-69 and pick up a key win at the FMU Wellness Center.
In the first half, the Lions quickly erased a one point deficit by Florida National with a pair of baskets and went on a 19-10 run to put the Lions on top, 21-13, at the 11:58 mark. The teams went into the locker room with Florida Memorial up by 14 points, 45-31.
In the second half, both teams' offenses continued to exchange baskets, with FMU leading by as much as 17 points. With less than 18 minutes to go, Florida National made a run and cut the lead to 12 points. The Lions turned up the heat and held Florida National scoreless for most of the second half. The Lions slowed the tempo, controlled the clock, and scored down the stretch to close out the game and seal the win.
Florida Memorial out-shot Florida National 46.2 % to 31.7 %, while out-rebounding their opponent by a 43-38 margin. The Lions shot 40.7 % from the three point line.
Omar Outar led a balanced scoring attack for FMU with 21 points, 5 boards and 3 steals,
Davon Williams chipped in 21 points, 4 boards and 1 steals and
Travis Mitchell poured in 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Mike Evans scored 12 points and 3 blocks, while
Eugene Harvey added 9points.
Florida Memorial returns to action against St. Thomas University in conference action on Saturday.
