FMU Defeates Warner University in Women's Volleyball

The FMU Lions (9-6, 3-4 TSC) earned a conference victory against Warner University (8-11, 4-4 TSC) on Friday night.

In the first set, Warner opened up a three point lead behind Raygen Lee's serves. The Lions battled back to tie the score 9-9 behind a thunderous kill by Sammyra Albarran. Albarran continued to score points for the Lions as her serves gave the Lions a 12-9 lead. The Lions continued to add points as they built a 15-10 lead, until Warner's Andrea Lorenz put the Royal Lions on a five point run to tie the score 15-15. The Lions would build a 22-18 point lead and eventually capture the first set 25-20.

In the second set, it was all Warner as they came out firing on all cylinders. The Royal Lions built an impressive lead, one that they would maintained throughout the set. They took advantage of the Lions 40% side out efficiency and a .091 hitting percentage compared to Warner's 64% side out efficiency and .296 hitting percentage. Warner took the second set 25-16

With the match tied one set a piece, the Lions took a commanding 23-10 lead behind Sammyra Albarran's six point serving run. Jesennia Bonilla had four kills on five attempts and Ivana Maric contributed with three kills on four attempts and had three blocks. The Lions had an astonishing 78% side out efficiency and a .303 hitting percentage as they captured the third set 25-13.

In the fourth set the FMU Lions were looking to close out the match as Yulianna Charris started things off with a four point service run. The Lions would continue to build their lead as the score was 12-8 midway through the fourth set. Warner's Raygen Lee went to the service line and earned a five point service run to give Warner a 14-12 lead. Just when it looked like Warner would push a fifth set, the Lions roared back and tied the score 24-24. Sammyra Albarran went to the service line for match point and forced Warner into a bad pass, as Warner's pass was coming to the net and over, FMU's Dayla Hall jumped and smashed the ball back down to give the Lions the victory.
