Lions Volleyball Earns First Conference Victory of the 2018 Season

The Lions earned the first conference victory of the 2018 campaign.

The Lions (6-4, 1-2 TSC) traveled across town to play against Johnson and Wales University (5-8, 0-4 TSC) in volleyball. JWU won the first set 25-17, it was point for point for much of the set until JWU went on a run to close it out. JWU took advantage in the set with a .147 hitting percentage compared to the Lions .000. The second set was much closer as JWU took the set 28-26 behind Sharell Nairin's 7 Kills.

Adjustments were made by the Lions in the third set. Coach Alvarez substituted the back up setter into the match and that seemed to insert some energy into the Lions as they took the set 29-27. The difference in the third set was the Lions hitting percentage, .160 compared to JWU's hitting percentage, .032.

The fourth set was all FMU, as they captured the set 25-13 and pushed a decisive 5th set. The Lions hit an astounding .524 hitting percentage in that set alone.

The fifth set was very indicative of the entire match as both teams kept the score close until the Lions pulled away 15-12 to capture the match. Leading the way for the Lions were Yulianna Charris and Sammyra Albarran both with double doubles (double digit kills and double digit digs) and Jazmin Molina with 25 digs.

Catch the Lions in action as they travel to Warner University Saturday, Sept. 22nd at 2:00.
