The Lions lost The Battle of Miami Gardens on Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas University, 78-80.
This game featured the Lions of Florida Memorial University (3-19, 1-9 TSC) traveling about a mile to St. Thomas University (7-11, 6-4 TSC) on Saturday afternoon. This was not the only competition of this day. The President of STU challenged the President of FMU and also the Mayor of Miami Gardens to a friendly shooting competition. The three men shot from the free throw line, from half court, and from behind the 3-point arc. The total points for the competition were totaled up and FMU President Hardrick won the overall competition and took home the hardware.
The Lions were very competitive against the Bobcats in this game. The score at halftime was FMU 38 and STU 32. After some halftime adjustments from both teams the results were very similar as the game featured 8 lead changes. The shooting percentages for both teams were very similar, the Lions owned the glass with a 6 rebound advantage, 38-33. The Bobcats had an advantage in turnovers forcing the Lions into committing 3 more turnovers then they had, 23-20.
The final score in this very hard fought contest was 78-80 in favor of STU. The Lions were leading by one point with 18 seconds left in the game when STU scored a layup giving them the advantage. The Lions then in-bounded the ball and could not score as time ran out and their chances of victory faded. This loss drops the Lions record to 3-19 overall and extends their losing skid to 9 games.

Eugene Harvey, and William Phels each scored 13 points.
The Lions will travel to College of Coastal Georgia on Thursday, Jan. 24th at 7:00 p.m.
