The Lady Lions of Florida Memorial University (12-4, 7-0 TSC) continue their winning ways.
Florida Memorial University traveled to Babson Park, FL on Saturday afternoon to take on the Warriors of Webber International University (6-9, 1-6 TSC). The Lady Lions are leading the nation is 3-pointers made and ranked 5th in total scoring offense. However, they started out slow in the first quarter against Webber as they were very competitive throughout this game. The Lady Lions only scored 13 points in the first quarter and shot 2-12 from 3-point range. The Warrior took advantage of the poor shooting and built a 16-13 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lady Lions regained their top ranked form and exploded for 28 points and held the Warriors to only 11 points. The score at halftime was 41-27 in favor of the Lady Lions as they shot 28% from the field and 26% from 3-point range. The story in the first half was the Lady Lions defense, they had 8 steals which they converted into 11 points.
In the third quarter, the Warriors made some adjustments and came out strong as they held the Lady Lions to 19 points while they scored 26. The score at the end of three quarters was 60-53 in favor of the Lady Lions.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions again responded with an offensive explosion of 27 points to put away the Warrior and capture the victory, 87-72. For the Warriors, Paris Copeland had a career high double double as she led her team with 31 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lady Lions had four players in double digit scoring, leading the way was Bri Battle with 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Kanesha Battle had 23 points and
Tyesha Battle had 15 points.
Anjelie Tirone registered a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Lions will travel to Ave Maria, FL on Thursday, Jan 10th, at 5:30 p.m. to take on Ave Maria University.
