Volleyball Punches Ticket to Sun Conference Championship

(BABSON PARK, Fla.) -- Florida Memorial University's volleyball team clinched a berth in the Sun Conference Championship  when they defeated Webber International on the road, 3-1, on Saturday, October 26. 

FMU last advanced to the conference tournament in 2017 as the No. 6 seed. The Lions are currently in fourth place in league standings and just a half-game behind the third spot.

The Warriors won the first set 25-23 after a point-for-point contest with FMU. The Lions led the set two different times before coming back from a 17-22 deficit to within one at 23-24. 

FMU won the next three sets 25-19, 25-21 and 25-11. 

Junior Sammyra Albarran led all players with 18 kills. Classmate Daphinie Correa finished with 10 kills and added three blocks. She finished with a .556 hitting percentage. 

Sophomore Dayla Hall contributed seven kills and three blocks.

Defensively, Keisha Santana finished with a game high 23 digs. Junior setters Francheska Rivera and Alanis Santana finished with 23 and 16 assists respectively. 

The Lions improved their conference record to 9-4 with the win.

In their second match of the day, FMU took on Trinity Christian in a non-conference match. The Trolls came into the match with an 18-7 record and defeated the Lions in three straight sets. 

Sophomore Rachele Mancinelli finished with nine kills while Albarran and freshman Biancaliz Cruz each added seven. 

Rivera finished with 14 assists while A. Santana added 12. 

K. Santana finished with 14 digs while A. Santana and senior Yulianna Charris both collected eight. 

The Lions return to action, Wednesday, October 30 when they host Warner at 7 p.m.
