MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Florida Memorial University men's basketball team returned to the hardwood for the second consecutive day and fell on the road at Faulkner University (Ala.), 75-65, inside the Tine Davis Gymnasium. Saturday's contest was part of the Jimmy Faulkner Classic.
The Lions shot just over 53-percent (16-of-30) from the floor in the first half, including nearly 62-percent (8-of-13) from 3-point range. Florida Memorial took a seven-point lead, its largest of the game, in the first stanza.
Omar Outar's basket at the 9:03 mark gave FMU a 28-21 lead. After the Eagles made a 3-pointer on the next play, the Lions responded with a trey of their own by
Freddy Reeves Jr. to push the lead back to seven, 31-24.
Faulkner went on an 11-3 run over the next four minutes, capped by a 3-pointer by Jacob Spence, and took a one-point lead, 35-34, with 4:01 left to play in the half.
After leading 46-43 at the break, the Eagles pulled away in the second period to get the 10-point win.
With the setback, Florida Memorial dropped to 0-2 overall while Faulkner moved to 2-0 on the season.
Four Lions reached double figure scoring, led by
Jordan Martin's 18 points.
Jordan Collins had 13 points off the bench while
Cheikh Kebe and Reeves Jr. added 11 and 10, respectively.
Mubashar Ali led the team in rebounding with a game-high tying 11 boards.
