MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A cold shooting night coupled with a litany of turnovers spelled "no Bueno" for Florida Memorial University Tuesday as the Lions fell to Florida National University 109-72 in their home opener in the FMU Wellness Center.
Florida Memorial (1-4) shot 34.3 percent (24-of-70) from the field and just 25 percent from the three-point line. The Lions also didn't do themselves any favors by making just 17 of their 27 free throw attempts Tuesday. Shooting woes aside, it was the turnovers that was the biggest thorn in the Lions' paws. 22 turnovers – 12 of which coming on Florida National steals – made it difficult for Florida Memorial to get into any offensive rhythm.
7-foot junior
Mubashar Ali finished with a team-high 23 points, but saw his streak of games with double-digit rebounds snapped as he was credited for nine boards.
Jordan Martin and
Jordan Collins each finished with 11 points for Florida Memorial, which will travel to Sun Conference foe Webber International University this Thursday (Nov. 21).
