Seahawks Rally, Down Lions on Senior Day

Florida Memorial set a new season-high on Wednesday night with 26 blocks, but despite FMU's efforts, the Keiser Seahawks pulled out a five-set win over the Lions (20-25, 14-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-11) inside of the Wellness Center.

With the win, Keiser evened the season series with Florida Memorial and moved to 29-9 (13-3). FMU concludes its regular-season at 19-10 (11-5).

Rachele Mancinelli and Biancaliz Cruz led the Lions offense with 15 and 11 kills, respectively. Daphinie Correa led the defensive effort with a match-high 11 blocks (3 BS, 8 BA). Keisha Santana added a team-high 27 digs.

Florida Memorial found itself trailing 18-14 in the fourth set, and called a timeout. The Seahawks then won 10 of the final 11 points of the fourth set to force the match into a fifth set. The five-set match for the Lions was its fifth of the season. The previous decision between FMU and Keiser on Oct. 2 also went to five sets.

In the fifth set, the two teams traded points early until the Seahawks pulled away midway through the contest. The Lions closed the gap late in the fifth with a charge to pull within 12-9, but Keiser closed out the match and won 15-11. FMU is now 1-4 in five-set matches this season.

The Lions will now await their seeding for the Sun Conference Championship, which begins with a quarterfinal round on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The top two seeds in the league earn a bye into the conference semifinals on Friday, Nov. 15.
