Lane’s Double-Double Not Enough, FMU Falls To STU

FMU's Winning Streak Ends At Four, Lions Lose 62-50

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Senior Isis Lane recorded her fifth consecutive double-double Saturday – finishing with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds – but it wasn't enough as Florida Memorial University was outscored in all four quarters as it fell 62-50 to host St. Thomas University in the Fernandez Family Center.

Saturday's loss snapped the Lady Lions' winning streak, which sat at four games. It also snapped the concurrent streak of games won in which Lane recorded a double-double.

Florida Memorial (6-5, 2-2 Sun Conference) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the rival Bobcats (6-4, 3-1) just over two minutes into the game, but St. Thomas then scored 12 unanswered points through the rest of the first quarter and never relinquished the lead again.

The Lions trailed by as many as 16 late in the third quarter, but did make a push early in the fourth after Danielle Bailey knocked down a three-pointer to cap 13-2 run that brought FMU within five (43-38) with 7:39 left in the fourth quarter. That, however, would be as close as Florida Memorial would draw.

Shawnice King was the only other FMU player to finish with double digit points Saturday. King scored 11 points in 39 minutes of action, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line to buoy her total. The Lions were without guard Airneisha Gamble for the second straight game. Gamble missed FMU's win over Florida National University Wednesday with an illness and was not available for Lions head coach Gregory Stanback again Saturday.

Bailey was FMU's next-highest scorer with seven points. The culprit behind Lions' stifled offensive output, though, was likely the 23 turnovers they committed – 12 of which coming off St. Thomas University steals. It also didn't help that Florida Memorial shot a season-low 11.1 percent from the three-point line and shot just 32.1 percent from the field overall Saturday.

On the flip side, the Lady Bobcats had four players finish with 11 points – led by Keiana Brooks and Anari Dozier, who each scored 14.
