The Florida Memorial University Lions baseball team (4-3) suffered a road loss to Thomas University (1-4).
In the 2nd game of the double header on Friday night, the Lions were defeated by the Night Hawks 1-3. The Lions were able to reach base safely 9 times with 7 of those being hits but they were not able to convert them into runs scored.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Night Hawks sent Landon Boyette to the plate, and he took the 2-1 pitch out of the ball park for a home run. In baseball there are many unspoken rules, one of them being, never make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base. It appears as if the Night Hawks don't follow rules. Night Hawks outfielder, Levi O'Steen drew a walk and stole second base, being a little greedy he decide to attempt another stolen base. This time with two outs, the Lions catcher,
Angel Colon threw him out at 3rd base for the 3rd out of the inning and ended the Night Hawks threat. The score after the first inning was 0-1 in favor of the Night Hawks.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Night Hawks would send Levi O'Steen to the plate with a runner on second base, and he delivered a home run to give the Night Hawks a 3-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning, the Lions would get a hit off the bat of
Yunior Sanchez who eventually scored on a Night Hawks error but that's all that the Lions could muster against the Night Hawks dominate pitching. For the Lions,
Carlos Alcon suffered the loss, pitching 3 innings, striking out 2 batters, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, and walking 3.
Leading the way for the Lions were
Edison Cabrera, 2-3,
Jouseph Renovales, 2-4,
Yunior Sanchez, 2-4 and scoring the lone Lions run.
The Lions would lose this game 1-3 and will look to take the series on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
