The Lions of Florida Memorial University (14-9, 4-5 TSC) were defeated by the Bobcats of Bryant and Stratton College, 5-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Lion's 7 game winning streak came to an end as the Bobcats came from behind and held off a late rally by the Lions. The Lions were leading in this game 3-2 until the top of the 5th inning when the Bobcats scored 2 runs to take the lead 3-4.
The Bobcats would add 3 more runs in the top of the 6th inning to take a commanding 3-7 lead. The Bobcats pitcher, Sage McCoy, pitched 6 innings, gave up 6 hits and struck out 3 Lions. It wasn't so much that the pitching was dominating but more so the combination of pitching and defense as the Lions would hit ball after ball right at defenders. The Lions would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning  to get within striking distance of the lead, 4-7.
In the bottom of the 7th inning the Lions would add one more run and had runners on 2nd and 3rd base., meaning that the tying run was at 2nd base. The Bobcats, keeping true to the adage that pitching and defense wins baseball games, did just that. Their closer was able to get Lion's catcher
Jose Chavez to ground out to 3rd base stranding the 2 runners on base and end any possibility of a Lion's comeback.
For the Lions
Raymond Guerrero,
Axel Gomez, and
Argenis Hernandez each had one hit and one RBI to lead the Lions. Lion's pitcher,
Carlos Alcon suffered the loss, pitching 4 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, walking 3 Bobcats, and striking out 4.
The Lions will play at 3:00 p.m. in the rubber game as they try to take the series from the Bobcats.
