Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball 1-1 Against Coastal Georgia and Florida College

(MIAMI GARDENS, FLA) -- The Florida Memorial University volleyball team finished the weekend 1-1 after losing to Coastal Georgia and defeating Florida College, Saturday, September 28.

In the first game of the evening, the Lions took on the defending conference champions in a 2-3 loss. Florida Memorial won the first two games 26-24 and 25-20 respectively. 

The third set was a battle for both teams as the Lions struggled to keep up with the constant attacks from the Mariners. 

Both teams went point-for-point through the majority of the game and after a 7-0 run, Coastal Georgia took the lead and kept it for the remainder of the set winning 25-17.

The Mariners would take the next two sets to by two points each to post a comeback victory against the Lions.

Junior Sammyra Albarran has an amazing game at the net for the home team. She finished the game leading all scorers with 21 kills. Sophomore Rachele Mancinelli was the only other Lion to produce double-digit kills, finishing with 13. 

Mancinelli also finished with her third double-double of the season adding 14 digs. 

In the second game of the night for the Lions, FMU finished the match in three straight sets, scoring 25-14, 25-20, 25-14. 

Florida Memorial out-hit the Falcons 35-23 and out-set them 31-22. Freshman Adriana Soto finished with a team-high nine kills.

Throughout both sets, junior setter, Francheska Rivera finished the night with 45 assists and 19 digs. Albarran and Mancinelli added another five kills to their totals and ended the evening with a combined six aces.

Senior Ivana Maric finished with eight kills and 10 blocks on the day including tying her career-best in blocks with seven against Florida College. 

The Lions return to action Wednesday, October 2, taking on conference foe Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Fla.
