BABSON PARK, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's women's soccer team fought defensively, but ultimately fell against Sun Conference rival Webber International University 1-0 Saturday afternoon on the Warriors Turf Field.
The Warriors got what ended up being the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute when Savannah Heggen was able to get her foot on a pass in the box and shoot a hard shot into the top left corner of the net.
FMU (0-4, 0-4 Sun Conference) played a hard-fought game and battled until the final whistle. Goalkeeper
Kacy Zimmerman had, arguably, her best performance of the season despite the first-half goal by the Warriors, which was an outstanding strike that would've warranted an amazing save.
She continued to make save after save in the second half – ultimately recording 12 saves on 13 shots on goal from the Warriors. Florida Memorial was outshot 24 (13 shots on goal) to 9 (zero shots on goal).
Defensively, the Lions were getting back to each ball and made it difficult for the Warriors (2-3, 1-3) offensively. The issues came in the midfield, where the team struggled to maintain possession. However, they had a few counterattacking opportunities that were halted by Warrior defender Da'Carrah Odom on multiple occasions.
Florida Memorial will have a week of prep before traveling to South Carolina to face the University of South Carolina-Beaufort. USC-Beaufort hasn't played since their September 26th loss to No. 4 ranked Southeastern University.
