FMU Falls At No. 7 Southeastern Saturday

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Memorial University's women's basketball team had eight different players register points but couldn't overcome No. 7 Southeastern University, falling 88-54 Saturday.

The Lions (3-4, 3-3 The Sun Conference) stood toe-to-toe with the Fire early on – playing Southeastern to a 19-19 tie. It wasn't until the second quarter that Southeastern began to pull away from FMU.

Cheyanne Whitfield led FMU in scoring Saturday with 10 points off the bench. Junior Keaynna Tolbert, who entered the game as the Sun Conference's leading scorer, finished with just 9 points – breaking her streak of consecutive games scoring 18 points or more.

Jamari Tillman – who also had her streak of consecutive games scoring double-digit points broken and Destiny Marin each finished with 8 points while Heather Durand had 7 points.

Saturday's game was Florida Memorial's last regular season contest of the 2020 calendar year. The Lions will play three exhibition contests – which won't count towards its final record or stats this season – over the next handful of days. FMU's women won't play another regular season game until its January 2nd meeting with Warner University.
