FMU Upended By Southeastern Saturday, Lions Fall 3-0

LAKELAND, Fla. – Some days just aren't your day and it's even worse when that day is your opponents' day.

Florida Memorial University ran into a hot Southeastern University team and fell 3-0 (16-25, 19-25, 20-25) Saturday afternoon in SEU's The Furnace.

The Lions committed 20 attacking errors – compared to 14 for the Fire – and had a .128 hitting percentage, which Southeastern doubled up in productivity as it posted a .259 hitting percentage.

Saturday's loss also dropped Florida Memorial (9-7, 8-4 The Sun Conference) solely into second place in The Sun Conference standings. The Lions were tied with St. Thomas University the No. 1 record, but loss to SEU paired with St. Thomas' win over College of Coastal Georgia Saturday put FMU a full game behind the Bobcats in the standings.

Florida Memorial still does control its own destiny, though. The Lions have three games remaining – two of which are at home – and will make the short trip over to St. Thomas to play their second head-to-head meeting with the Bobcats on November 3rd.

Saturday's first set began with the Lions falling into a 5-1 hole that became a 10-2 hole. FMU did rally and tied the game at 13 but ended up getting outscored 12-3 over the rest of the set to fall 25-16. The second set began the same way – with the Lions falling into a 5-1 deficit – and the Fire essentially controlled the whole set and kept Florida Memorial at bay until handing the FMU a 25-19 loss.

What was ultimately the decisive set, Southeastern put the Lions in a 13-3 hole early and – again – kept Florida Memorial at bay before completing the sweep with a 25-20 win.

Senior middle blocker Daphinie Correa led Florida Memorial in kills Saturday with 11. Her sister and fellow middle blocker was right behind her with 9 kills. FMU's kills leaders, Biancaliz Cruz and Sammyra Albarran, struggled Saturday – Cruz had just 8 kills and posted a .077 hitting percentage while Albarran had a season-low 3 kills and finished with a negative hitting percentage.

Agustina Busque had 14 assists and Keisha Santana Roldan recorded 16 digs.
