FMU Competitive Cheer Places Fourth In NCA College Nationals

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Don't let the pom-poms and dance moves fool you, cheerleaders are athletes.

Florida Memorial University's competitive cheerleading team showed its athleticism, talent, and perseverance as it placed fourth – out of nine squads – in the Spirit Rally Division of the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College National Competition.

The Lions, competing for the first time in four years, placing fourth in the NCA College Nationals – the largest end-of-the-season cheer championship in the country – was quite the feat given that the squad was already shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lost an additional two members of the team between the preliminary round and the finals – leaving them with just eight cheerleaders.

FMU's "elite eight" outperformed other teams that had more than doubled the number of cheerleaders to earn one of the event's prestigious trophies.
