FMU scores two 4th quarter touchdowns in loss to Southeastern

Lions gave up nearly 500 total yards to the Fire

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial looked to avenge an earlier loss to the Fire, but it was Southeastern who controlled the game en route to a 41-13 victory over the Lions at Betty T. Ferguson Stadium in Sun Conference play. FMU is currently on a 4-game skid heading into next week's Homecoming game.

In the first few minutes of the game, Fire quarterback Kaylan Wiggins scored the first touchdown on a 53-yard scamper as he carried the load for Southeastern, leading Southeastern in both passing and rushing yards. Florida Memorial's offense simply could not move the chains early in the contest, going three-and-out on its first four possessions. The defense made plays in spurts, but couldn't stay consistent, giving up nearly 500 yards of total offense to Southeastern.

FMU (2-6, 0-4) running back George Young eventually found holes in the defense as the Lions offensive line showed signs of life. However, Florida Memorial could not finish drives and didn't find the end zone before halftime as quarterbacks Eric Gibson and Antoine Williams split time running the offense. However, Williams provided a major spark for the Lions offense in the second half, generating two touchdown passes to Eumari Dixon and De'Andre Williams, bringing the score to 27-13, but Southeastern would score two late touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

On the defensive end, Amari Taylor and Philman Roundtree both finished with a team-high 10 tackles while Christian Mable produced seven tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one tackle for loss. Roundtree also generated one sack on the evening while Taylor forced a fumble.

FMU linebacker Josh Mimms finished with seven tackles while Darius Conley chipped in with six tackles and also forced a fumble.

The Lions return to the gridiron on Saturday, November 5 as they host Ave Maria. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Betty T. Ferguson Stadium in Miami Gardens.
