MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial trailed 18-16 after one quarter of play before pouring in 31 second-quarter points en route to an 84-73 victory over Florida National at the FMU Wellness Center. The win snaps a two-game skid for the Lady Lions, who improve to 2-2 on the season.
FMU (2-2) finished with five scorers in double-figures and was led by Chantell Barnett, who scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. She also produced four steals, three boards, one assist and one block in 29 minutes of action while teammate Cherelle Washington generated 16 points while connecting on 7-of-10 field goals. Washington filled the stat sheet as she finished with four assists, three steals and three rebounds in 31 minutes.
Overall, the Lady Lions controlled the glass with 38 total rebounds compared to 30 for the Conquistadors. Aliyah Deen-Ahmad made her presence felt on both ends of the floor as she generated a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards to go along with three assists and one block. She was also instrumental from the charity stripe, connecting on seven of her 10 free throws.
As a team, the Lady Lions shot over 50 percent from the field (30-for-58) while holding its opponent to under 40 percent shooting (29-of-73). Florida Memorial's bench was able to wear down Florida National throughout the contest, scoring 43 points compared to just 25 for FNU's bench.

Jamari Tillman nearly produced a double-double as she finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals while also burying three of FMU's four 3-pointers on the night.
The Lady Lions return to action on Saturday, November 12 as they host St. Thomas in the Battle of Miami Gardens for their conference opener. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center. The men's basketball team will play the first game of the double-header at 2 p.m.
