4-1 loss to Southeastern ends season for FMU Lions soccer

Lions were in must-win situation heading to conference contest with Fire

LAKELAND, Fla. | Florida Memorial scored in the fifth minute of the match in a must-win situation, but gave up four goals en route to a 4-1 loss to Southeastern in Sun Conference action at the SEU Soccer Field. The Lions needed to defeat the Fire in order to slide into the Sun Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, but couldn't find the back of the net in the second half.

In the fifth minute, Geovannie Lake continued his hot streak and found Alejandro Caicedo for the first goal of the match, putting pressure on the Fire early in the contest. However, Southeastern responded with two goals before halftime, taking a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Lions produced six shots in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Fire added two late insurance goals to seal the deal.

Substitute Johan Godoy led the Lions with three total shots while Godoy, Lake, Caicedo, Tajay Russell and Brad Tulley each finished with one shot on target.

FMU goalkeeper Joshua Aranzazu generated eight saves but allowed four goals in the contest.

The loss ends the season for the FMU Lions, who finished with a 3-8-4 overall record, going 2-4-2 in conference competition.

The FMU Lions are officially eliminated from playoff contention.
