Florida Memorial's 3-game win streak snapped in 96-90 loss to Florida National

Lions don't reach 100 points for first time all season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial missed the 100 point mark for the first time all season, resulting in a 96-90 loss against Florida National at the FMU Wellness Center. The contest marks the first loss of the season for the Lions.

Both teams exchanged baskets throughout the first half in an exciting back-and-forth affair, with Florida National leading 50-48 at the break. FMU guard Tariq Humes finished with a team-high 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Teammate Tavin Pierre-Philippe proved to be efficient throughout the contest, scoring 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field as he connected on 2-of-3 three-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws to go along with four assists.

In the second half, Florida Memorial (3-1) trailed by as many as 11 points from stellar shooting by the Conquistadors. As a team FNU shot nearly 60 percent from the field (34-for-60) while FMU shot less than 50 percent from the field (32-of-65). However, the Lions cut the deficit to six points late in the second half, but simply could not come up with consecutive stops to slow down FNU's offense. The Conquistadors shot 50 percent from downtown, hitting nine of its 18 three-pointers. The Lions also hit nine three-pointers, but shot just over 35 percent (9-of-25) from long range.

FMU sharpshooter Cam'ron Wilson added 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field along with six boards, one block and one assist in 24 minutes of action. Lions guard Miles Jordan-Smartt chipped in with 11 points, two assists and one rebound in just 13 minutes of play while teammate Rod Boggan produced 10 points, five assists and two boards, but finished with six turnovers in the loss.

Overall, FMU won the rebound battle 30-24 over FNU (1-3), who won their first game of the season.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, November 12 as they begin conference play in the Battle of Miami Gardens. Tip-off against St. Thomas is set for 4 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
