LAKELAND, Fla. | Florida Memorial (11-10, 7-8) suffered a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-18) loss to Southeastern in the quarterfinal round and was eliminated from the Sun Conference Volleyball Championships. The Lions finished 0-3 overall in three contests against the Fire this season.
Southeastern took control in the first set behind its home crowd, but FMU came alive in the second set and took a 13-6 lead on the road. That's when the Fire went on a vicious 12-5 run to tie the set at 18 apiece. The Lions battled ferociously, but were outscored 7-4 in the final stretch of the set.
Brazilian native
Rafaela Nogueira finished with a team-high nine kills while senior teammates Shainell Taylor and
Mar Danes both added six kills each for the Lions, who finish the season 11-10 overall and 7-8 in Sun Conference competition. Danes produced a team-high nine digs while Taylor chipped in with six.
Senior
Agustina Busque produced a team-high 23 assists while fellow Lions Ludmilla Souza chipped in with five. Senior
Kimberlie Correa played well on the defensive end and generated a team-high three blocks while L. Souza added one.
The Lions were without its leading hitter, Carolina Souza, who missed the contest due to a previous injury. Souza was named two-time Sun Conference Volleyball Attacker of the Week during the regular season and is a nominee for Sun Conference Volleyball Player of the Year.
