5-Seed FMU MBB Tops 4-Seed St. Thomas University, Advances To Sun Conference Tournament Semis

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Senior Brent Holcombe notched a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double and 5-seed Florida Memorial University's defense held 4-seed St. Thomas University to one of its worst shooting nights all season as the Lions earned a 76-74 win over the host Bobcats Tuesday night in the opening round of the Sun Conference Championship Tournament.

FMU (15-10), which was making its first postseason appearance under head coach Ansar Al-Ameen Tuesday, advances to the final four of the tournament – where it will take on 1-seed and host Warner University Friday (Feb. 25) at 7 p.m.

  • STU's Chris Whitaker made a desperation three-pointer with four seconds left to cut the margin to 76-74, but the Lions were able to run out the remaining seconds to secure the win.
  • The Bobcats shot 15 percent (3-of-20) from three-point range and 34.9 percent (24-for-69) from the field.
