FMU Baseball Routs Florida National In Weekend Series Opener

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University made easy work of visiting Florida National University Friday, setting an early season-high for runs scored in a single game and earning its first home victory of the season in a 20-3 rout in the opening game of a weekend series at Harry T. Moore Field.

Because the Lions (2-0) led by more than 10 runs by the end of the top of the seventh inning, the game was called by NAIA mercy rule.

Florida Memorial, which will host the Conquistadors Saturday in a doubleheader to complete the three-game weekend series, racked up 16 hits and registered runs in five of the six innings they were at the plate. 11 different players recorded hits, led by Yunior Sanchez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Rohandry Javier and Axel Gomez both had 2 hits while Gomez had 3 runs scored and 1 RBI and Javier had 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Freshman lefty pitcher Roberto Mayorca earned the win on the mound for FMU, pitching 1.2 innings with 4 strikeouts.
