Holcombe’s Late Tip-In Lifts Lions MBB To 71-70 Win Over Thomas University Saturday

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Senior Brent Holcombe played the role of hero for Florida Memorial University Saturday, as his buzzer-beating put-back gave the Lions a 71-70 victory over host Thomas University and extended the team's winning streak to a season-best four games.

How It Happened
  • FMU trailed 70-67 with 36 seconds left and cut that deficit down to one after Holcombe sank a pair of free throws.
  • The Lions took a foul on the ensuing trip up the court, sending Thomas University's Tim Williamson to the free throw line.
  • Williamson missed the first of the one-and-one free throw with 14 seconds left.
  • Corey Benton secured the rebound of the Williamson miss and the Lions called a timeout.
  • Benton was fouled with five seconds left and went to the line to shoot one-and-one.
  • Benton's free throw went awry and into the hands of Cheikh Kebe, who tried a contested put-back jumper in the late.
  • Kebe's short jumper missed but went right to Holcombe, who hit a threw up a quick shot off the backboard and in for the win.
  • Florida Memorial had to rally back after being down as many as 13 points in the second half.
  • The Lions had a tough shooting night from three-point range, going just 5-for-20 from long distance.
