Florida Memorial Softball Drops Weekend Series Opener To Webber International Friday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Hosting its historic first-ever conference regular-season, three-game weekend series, Florida Memorial University won't want to remember the result of Friday's game as it fell 16-1 to visiting Webber International University at Pembroke Pines Flamingo Park.
 
How It Happened
  • FMU trailed by a single run at the end of the first inning, but saw that deficit grow through each subsequent inning.
  • The Lions' pitching staff struggled to find its groove on the mound. All three pitchers who threw Friday had at least one wild pitch and registered multiple walks.
  • Webber International lead 16-0 going into the bottom of the fifth.
  • Florida Memorial got on the board when Samantha Triana hit a double to left field, bringing in Ayr'Reka Gilghrest – who got on with a single up the middle.
  • The game ended 16-1 at the bottom of the fifth as WIU had already activated the 10-run mercy rule.
