Florida Memorial Softball Falls To No. 10 Coastal Georgia Saturday, Drops Weekend Series

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Florida Memorial University couldn't overcome what was a strong collective pitching performance by No. 10 College of Coastal Georgia – four pitchers allowing just two hits – and dropped the third game of weekend series 8-0 Saturday afternoon at Brunswick High School Softball Field.

The Lions also dropped both games in Friday's doubleheader, Coastal Georgia a sweep in series.

How It Happened
  • FMU fell into a 3-0 hole in the bottom of the first inning after the Mariners got a three-run home run.
  • Florida Memorial threatened to get on the board in the second, loading the bases with no outs after Zariah Spells got a single – joining Trinity Hobley, who was hit by a pitch, and Karah Atkins, who drew a walk, on the bases.
  • CCGA got a strikeout, made the play at the plate to prevent a run after Kayla Morales put the ball in play, and ended the inning with another strikeout.
  • The Lions' deficit grew to 5-0 in the third inning and to the final 8-0 margin in the bottom of the fifth – activating the 8-run mercy rule and ending the game.
