FMU Softball Falls To St. Thomas In Series Opener Friday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University continued its improved play – especially defensively – but couldn't generate enough offensive juice to come away with a home victory as it fell 5-2 to visiting St. Thomas University Friday night at Miami Carol City Park.

How It Happened
  • FMU fell into a 2-0 hole through the third inning that doubled to 4-0 after St. Thomas got a home run and an RBI double in the top of the fourth.
  • The Lions produced a single run in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of a leadoff walk drawn by Haylei Grand after she was brought home Zariah Spells groundout.
  • STU went up 5-1 in the top of the fifth, manufacturing the run thanks to three hits from the middle of its batting order.
  • FMU plated another single run in the bottom of the sixth inning – scoring on a nifty slide into home plate by Aleah Killebrew, as she avoided the tag by the Bobcats' catcher.
  • St. Thomas tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to create the final 6-2 margin after FMU went three-up, three-down in the final half-inning.
