Florida Memorial Softball Drops Two At Florida National Wednesday

MIAMI – Florida Memorial University was able to manufacture a solid amount of hits – 12 through both games – but couldn't convert them into runs as it dropped both games to host Florida National University Wednesday afternoon at Miami Christian High School Field.
 
How It Happened – Game One (FNU 7, FMU 3)
  • FMU fell into a 7-0 hole by the end of the second inning, yielding five runs – including a grand slam – to Florida National.
  • The Lions got on the board in the top of the fourth, getting three straight singles to generate two run and cut their deficit to 7-2.
  • Jadlyn Dixon put Florida Memorial on the board again in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run.
  • FMU pitcher Bridgette Tuxbury threw four shutout innings after entering in relief of starter Reygan Nickerson in the second inning.
 
How It Happened – Game Two (FNU 8, FMU 1)
  • Florida Memorial trailed 4-0 by the end of the third inning.
  • Zariah Spells knocked in a run with a single in the top of the fourth to put the Lions on the board.
  • The Conquistadors responded in the bottom of the inning with another three runs to take a 7-1 lead.
  • FNU extended its lead again in the fifth.
  • The Lions got three hits in the top of the seventh but couldn't produce any runs.
 
Inside The Box Score – Game One
  • Dixon went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
  • Emily Albelo also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Tuxbury ended up throwing 4.2 innings with 3 strikeouts.
  • Florida National only totaled seven hits.
 
Inside The Box Score – Game Two
  • Albelo had another multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.
  • Karah Atkins went 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter.
  • Spells finished 1-for-3 with the team's lone RBI.
  • Florida National's Megen Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
 
Analysis & Notes
  • Dixon's home run Wednesday was her second of the season.
  • With Florida Memorial holding the Conquistadors to seven hits in game one, it was the program's second-fewest hits allowed in a game this season behind the no-hitter against Pennsylvania State University-Hazleton earlier this season.
  • Albelo joined Scarlett Montalvo and Trinity Hobley as FMU players with two multi-hit games this year.
  • The Lions fell to 1-20 overall
  • Florida National improved to 24-11 overall.
