Lions Softball Battles, Still Falls To Keiser University Saturday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A handful of early defensive breakdowns that yielded runs put Florida Memorial University into an early hole that it couldn't completely climb out of as it succumbed to a 7-3 defeat to visiting Keiser University Saturday in the finale of the weekend series between the teams at Miami Carol City Park.

The Lions also dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader.

How It Happened
  • FMU saw the Seahawks jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first aided by a pair of its defensive errors – one of which directly allowed a run to score.
  • Florida Memorial did respond in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a Heidy Olivo double.
  • The Seahawks would take a 7-1 lead in the top of the fourth.
  • Jadlyn Dixon knocked in a run in the bottom of the fourth with a single to center field to cut into the deficit and Olivo made it 7-3 game in the bottom fifth with a single down the left field line.
  • While FMU did put one run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, it missed its chance to add more after had the bases loaded with no outs.
  • After a Zariah Spells single put three on, the next three Lions batters struck out, popped out, and flied out respectively.
  • After the fourth inning, the Lions held Keiser to just one hit for the remainder of the game.
  • Unfortunately, Florida Memorial only amassed one hit after the fourth inning as well.
