Jazmine Washington picked up her first career victory at FMU as her Lions defeated Florida National in three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) in the home opener.
The first set went back and forth as the Lions led 15-14 before going on a 10-3 run to finish the set. In set two, with the score tied at 15 apiece, the Lions went on another strong (8-3) run to close out the set.
FMU was led by
Caroline Souza who finished with a match-high 12 kills while teammate
Rafaela Nogueira added eight kills in the win.
On the defensive end, Nogueira finished with a match-high three blocks while fellow Lion Souza chipped in with two blocks. Setter
Agustina Busque dished out a match-high 31 assists while producing three aces, also a match-high.
As a team, FMU finished with a game-high 41 total digs while its opponents produced 35.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, August 31 for a non-conference contest against Indian River State College. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. at the FMU Wellness Center.
